Parenting, young children's behavioral self?regulation and the quality of their peer relationships

The quality of young children's peer relationships is important for their development, and it assumed that parenting self-regulation skills shape behavior when interacting with peers. In this multi-informant-multi-method study, we examined the direct mediated associations between preschool parenting, behavioral self-regulation, aggression relationship problems in elementary school-aged children extended previous work by examining both positive negative mothers fathers. a large community sample (n = 698) parents who were 1 6 years old, obtained information on observed maternal sensitivity, mother- father-reported harsh discipline, child child-reported towards peers, rejection victimization. Results from structural equation model showed sensitivity was prospectively associated lower levels higher problems. However, did not mediate association addition, paternal, but maternal, discipline directly more problems, again no mediation found. results highlight importance role paternal later relationships. Our findings suggest to take practices into account as they might have different effects child.
